What started off as a small lie for getting to stay in an apartment turns out to be a nightmare for the two guys. The cool headed fun loving best friends Sameer played by Abhishek Bachchan and Kunal played by John Abraham never thought that the land lady's niece Neha played by Priyanka Chopra will be so gorgeous and one among them after the meeting will fall for her charm so quickly. So now how to get out of the mess that is standing like a hurdle? What is the way out of the simple lie of being a gay couple forced to be made because of the same old land lady who had insisted that she cannot give the apartment because she thought the two dashing young men will corrupt the mind of her beautiful niece if allowed to stay there.
When situations have already got hot and slippery, the third good looking man enters the picture to create more mayhem. The person is none other than Neha's boss Abhimanyu played by Bobby Deol who also wants Neha as his own. When you carry the baggage of super-successful films like DHOOM and DHOOM 2, the expectations from your subsequent outing is bound to be gargantuan. Unfortunately, KIDNAP falls short of expectations. You expect a seven course meal, but you're served mere crumbs.
Let's introspect. Where does it falter? The boy versus man concept holds tremendous scope and writer Shibani Bathija could've come up with an enthralling revenge drama. But KIDNAP fumbles, stumbles and falls on its face. The cat-n-mouse game is hardly enticing and that is its biggest drawback.
KIDNAP comes close to ZINDA in terms of plotline. There're similarities between the two films. But KIDNAP isn't as dark and gruesome as ZINDA. Also, KIDNAP loses focus after a promising start.
The hallmark of any revenge fare is the suspense quotient. In this case, there's a motive behind what Imran does. And money is definitely not the motive here. So far, so good. But the purpose of kidnapping the billionaire's only daughter as also the chain of events that lead to the culmination is such a put-off. Things keep deteriorating as they reach the finale.
KIDNAP belongs to Imran Khan. Watch this youngster take giant strides and you know that he has arrived. He carries the cold look effortlessly. Sanjay Dutt looks disinterested, as if he is about to break into a yawn. Minissha Lamba is miscast. She doesn't look like a 17-year-old in the first place. Also, the generous dose of skin show doesn't gel with someone who's held captive. Vidya Malvade is efficient. Reema Lagoo is a mere prop. Rahul Dev's character looks forced.
On the whole, KIDNAP fails to grip you and that is its biggest flaw. At the box-office, KIDNAP being teen sensation Imran Khan's immediate release after the blockbuster hit JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA would ensure a strong opening weekend, but the poor merits are sure to take a toll once the initial euphoria subsides. Disappointing!

Malayalam film industry is facing a new controversy during the festival season of Ramzan, when the major films of megastars like ‘Kurukshetra’ starring Mohanlal ‘Maya Bazaar’ of Mammootty, and Suresh Gopi’s ‘Bullet’ are scheduled to be released tomorrow on October 1st.
Cine Exhibitors Federation (CEF), an organization of 'A' class theatres in Kerala demands for a restriction in the number of releasing centers for the films. Screening of new releases in larger number of centers would harm the other films. They insisted that there must be only 48 releasing centers in the state whereas the films’ producers want their films to be screened for release in 90 centers. Film producers association and the B-C Class theatre owners consider this restriction as harmful to the solidarity of the film industry in the forthcoming festival season.
However, the Film producers association cleared that the demand of CEF is the breach of contract signed last march, which says about permitting any number of releasing centers in the state.

Ranjith's Magical Touch
Films that were made with cinema as the backdrop, has always captured the hearts of Malayalee viewers. Be it in 'Udhayannu Tharam’,’Chathikkatha Chanthu', or 'Lekhayude Maranam - Oru Flashback', to name a few, every film with a backdrop of cinema invited interests due to their refreshing narratives and untold elements in the making of movies. Now after two decades in filmdom, Film director Ranjith is making a tribute to his struggling days of eighties with the new film 'Thirakkatha'. The film, produced under the banner of Varnachitra Big Screen and Capitol Theatre, has Prithviraj playing the lead role, that of a young filmmaker named Akbar Ahmed. The movie narrates the story of a young film director who is in the search for a perfect script to make a movie.
Akbar runs a cafeteria 'Casablanca', named after the classic love story, with his sweetheart Devayani. He has a group of friends, who also share his passion for Cinema. It was with them that Akbar produced and directed his first film, which has been a huge success, critically and commercially. But Akbar is also a little worried because he faced some criticisms for plagiarisms in the story lines in his debut venture and so is very keenly trying to avoid any similarities with any other films in his new venture.
Samvritha Sunil gives company to Prithviraj's Akbar Ahmed as Devayani, while this year’s national award winner Priyamani makes a comeback to Mollywood as Malavika. Nishant Sagar plays a key role as a cinematographer named Kevin Paul. ‘Thirakkatha' also stars Khushboo, Siddharth ,Cochin Haneefa, Maniyan Pilla Raju, Nandu, Nishanth Sagar, K. B. Venu, Mallika Sukumaran, Surabhi, and Augustine.
Director Jayaraj commented that the success of Thirakkatha, a film without superstars, is an extremely encouraging sign for filmmakers like him. “It is great to know that there is still an audience for a good, meaningful film. I am now more confident about my next film, Gulmohar, which is due for release,” he said.
Director Ranjith, who is incidentally the hero of Gulmohar, said he is delighted to know Thirakkatha had been received well by the discerning Malayalee audience. “I was confident that I had made a good film and it’s heartening to know that it is doing well at the box office,” he said.

Banner: Moser Baer Entertainment, Global One Studios Production
Cast: Cheran, Vimala Raman, Remya Nambeesan, Navya Nair, Gajala, Karthika, Nithin Sathya, Pasupathi
Direction: K.P. Jagannaath
Music: Vidyasagar
Speaking about the project, Jaganji says, ' it is one of the greatest experiences of my life doing this film. Directing my mentor (Cheran) was a scintillating experience. He has been a guiding force to me encouraging and motivating me a lot'.
A one-time associate of director Cheran, Jaganji has managed a casting coup with prominent stars of Tamil Cinema playing important roles in the film. RTS is a film that revolves around a youth played by Cheran and the movie talks about different people and varied cultures that he comes across in his life.
Rajesh Yadav's brilliant camera work, Vidhyasagar's refreshing tunes both with the songs and the background score and Vairabalan's art work merge very well to bring out the desired effects. Good team work is evident right through and that has certainly translated itself very well with the end result. Though the film carries the same title of the MGR – Jayalalitha 1972 film, the name probably could not have been better as it synchronizes perfectly with the characters involved.
There is no dearth for beautiful girls in the film. Vimala Raman, Ramya Nambeesan, Gajala, Karthiga and Navya Nair fill in with their respective screen time adding freshness with their diverse portrayals.
Venu (Cheran), a successful businessman seems to have everything in life except a wife. The film starts off with him in Nagerkoil where he is in the process of selecting a bride. Ranjitha (Vimala Raman) seems perfectly happy with him until she hears about his past. Venu, a hard working student needed psychiatric help in order to come to terms with life and his stammering during nervous periods still exist as a naked reminder to his troubled times. The denial makes Venu hunt for other girls and goes to Vidhya's (Ramya Nambeesan) house. The girl says 'yes' and marriage preparations get underway. Happiness is in the air until the girl elopes with her boyfriend on the day of marriage. Venu takes the blame upon himself and become a nervous wreck. In comes a visually challenged man Nedumaran (Pasupathy) a Radio Jockey who hosts a positive thinking way-to-success show. After getting to know about Nedumaran's rather unusual love affair with Isaitamil (Gajala) ad ther eventual marriage, Cheran oozes with confidence and goes back to Nagerkoil to 'seek' another prospect. This time arranged by Manivannan (Vidhya's father) who has a troubled conscience that pricks him.

Veruthe Oru Bharya is one of the best films of recent times, narrated with intensity and integrity from beginning to end. We have seen quite a few preachy films on matrimonial harmony in the past; director Akku Akbar's Veruthe Oru Bharya, starring Jayaram and Gopika, is one among them, with the message that a wife is not the bonded labour of her husband.
'Veruthe Oru Bharya', delves into the related questions, about whether the house wives are sitting idle and jobless at homes, whether they get rest, leave or retirement amidst heavy house chores.
Let's think about a lady waking up early in the morning at 5:00 a.m., getting into the drudgery of domestic work until 11:00 p.m. When she goes to bed after finishing all her duties as a housewife, she finds her sex-hungry husband pouncing on her. And again, her routine works begin at 5:00 a.m. the next morning! As the title of the film Veruthe Oru Bharya indicates, this is the best summary of this film's story.
The movie revolves around a few lives -- Sugunan (Jayaram), an employee of the Electricity Board with conventional notions of what a wife is meant for, his wife Bindu (Gopika) and their teenage daughter Anju (Nivedita), Sugunan's colleagues and Bindu's family, comprising her parents and her brother Ramesh (Madhu Warrier).
Sugunan is a typical egoistic person, the ever-complaining husband who considers Bindhu as just a person who is obliged to meet all the pressures in managing home affairs. As household chores occupy all her time, Bindu does not get any leisure to enjoy with her friends or relatives or attend public functions. And she has to deal with her teenaged daughter Anju's growing demands. Sugunan neither acknowledges his wife's efforts nor does he help her.
All in all, Veruthe Oru Bharya is one of the most brilliant mainstream crowd pleasers and best thought-provoking family movies released in recent times.

Meet Jai Singh Rathore - 'Rats' (Imran Khan), the most non-violent Rajput either side of the Aravallis. And meet, if you dare, the violent and passionate Aditi Mahant - 'Meow' (Genelia D'Souza). Whatever you do, do not pick a fight with her. She scratches. And abuses.
Jai thinks Aditi's parents should have rinsed her mouth with soap when she was a child. Aditi thinks that Jai is the biggest coward she has ever encountered. There is nothing Rajput-like in him. Heaven has mixed up its apples and oranges.Rotlu weeps secretly for Aditi. Bombs' heart explodes for Jai. Jiggy applies golden mascara to his hair. Shaleen… well, she's probably the only one who doesn't seem a few notes short of a concerto.
Can two people ever, truly, know the secrets of their hearts? And how do you know it's the real thing? Will they find love in each other? When do you know it's love?
Produced by Mansoor Khan and Aamir Khan with director Abbas Tyrewala at the helm, the film which has music by A.R. Rahman and lyrics by Abbas Tyrewala also stars Naseruddin Shah, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Arshad Warsi, Ratna Pathak and Paresh Rawal in a special appearance.
